What does it mean to be human? Can something non-living develop morals without a heart and achieve their dreams? Or are they forever trapped in a never-ending cycle of damnation? These questions are genuinely what brings them becoming unanswerable to even our lives. Yet, the road taken will always be made by the one which curves their paths. No matter the pain and suffering, one must stay strong and determined to win the impossible, even if God is against you.
Death Battle has loved bringing fighters from different eras, including some killing machines but never had these two female fighters who fought for the ideal future. Both use automatic features and expert skills to fight for humanity to achieve their goals. No matter how meaningless it may seem, they will fight till the end with all their might. But what would happen when the biggest hurdle is each other? Then, who will ascend to the heavens? Who will bring Glory to Death Battle?
In Case You Are Wondering…
Nier Automata and Alita: Battle Angel are two well-respected series in their rights, but a factor needs to address how the sources shall be done. Especially for 2B’s part.
The problem with the series as a whole in the world of Nier is how confusing the term “canon” is besides the usual multiple endings, and we have the creator to thank.
Yako Taro is so damn creative in presenting his series using many media sources, going as far as making musicals and even the Strategy Guide itself that is connected to his works. In other words, everything Yako Taro touches is his official canon.
…More or less.
So, what does this mean for how 2B will be presented? It means that she will be getting THE BIG GUNS for her sources. The game itself is the primary source, including the novels, with other Nier titles like Re[in]carnation and secondary musicals. However, this also means that any crossovers are an exception since they too are essential to the official story; 2P is the main reason. So, 2B’s appearances in Soul Calibur 6, Final Fantasy XIV’s YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse, SINoALICE, and any other crossovers will also be mentioned in the blog.
Thankfully for Alita, her sources are much more straightforward to do. The manga series of Alita: Battle Angel, Last Order, and Mars Chronicles will be the prime files of use. Mars Chronicles is still being finished and is the final saga of Alita’s journey, so what is shown are the official release of the volumes as of Volume 41 being current as of this blog’s release. The movie, short-lived animated series, and other media sources shall be secondary sources for support.
Mature warnings for Automata and Battle Angel, especially Alita’s part, touch on heavy topics and depressing subject matters. Like full show children deaths type of subject matters.
Lastly, the main questions regarding feats or abilities will be discussed before the verdicts.
With that out of the way, let’s see whose eyes shall pierce the cycle.
Background
YoRHa No.2 Type B
“Everything that lives is designed to end. We are perpetually trapped...in a never-ending spiral of life and death. Is this a curse? Or some kind of punishment? I often think about the god who blessed us with this cryptic puzzle...and wonder if we'll ever get the chance to kill him.”
Around 11,939 AD, the 14th Machine War began, and humanity was close to extinction. Aliens from outer space invaded the Earth around July 4, 2052, and somehow were able to bring machines to life. The aliens and the “living machines' ' started their conquest and slowly destroyed the human race since the 1st Machine War. Humanity suffered so severely that they had to escape to the moon to make a space station. However, in the last-ditch effort, Project YoRHA was made to “finish the fight” by having androids as a military force and fighting back against the machines. Different models were created through experiments to help assign their tasks for battle. For example, (H) Healer's goal is to repair any damage done either physically, data, or electronically. The rest, (A)ttackers, (B)attlers, (D)efender, (E)xecutioner, (G)unner, (H)ealer, (O)perater, and (S)canner, all join together to end the machines and alien alliance once and for all. But, three androids were chosen by fate to challenge the never ending cycle. One of the three was named YoHRa No2 Type B, or 2B.
The origins of 2B are classified and not foretold so far in the story, but we know that she was created before the events in Automata. 2B was a true soldier whose service went above and got direct orders from Commander White herself. One day, 2B was given a particular order from command to analyze one of the new models being too innovative, a scanner named 9S, Nines for short. Despite being silent and disliking pointless subjects, she is kind to others and becomes close friends with 9S throughout their missions. But… she always hated the “ending” of her secret mission. And plot twist: her name was 2E, and 2B was the cover-up name.
2B's unique mission was to always prevent 9S from discovering the actual creation behind Project YoRHA by any means necessary. Because of 9S’s curious and intelligent mind, 2B's mission was simple: be Nine's partner through other tasks, kill 9S when he gets too close to the truth, wipe his memory blank over his time with 2B, rinse and repeat. Forty-eight times she had slain 9S, and forty-eight times she felt the pain she could not understand.
Sometime later, what seems to be her 49th meet-up with Nines is where the events of Automata occur, where they team up once more to take down goliath Engels at the Machine Factory and use their black boxes to destroy the rest. From there would go further down the rabbit role in joining the Resistance for reconnaissance information. They would discover the machine lifeforms birthing Adam and Eve, ally with the friendly Pascal, fight the renegade YoRHa Type A No. 2, or A2, and find the darkest secrets behind the Machine War and YoRHA itself.
It was just a shame, close to the end of the 14th Machine War; she would not live to see it. Despite her unfortunate death by the machine's counterattack, her memories lived on with 9S and A2. With their own goals, they both would try to prevent the server on the moon from being destroyed. The path line of the “TRUE” ending behind Automata remains unknown and debated, but ideally results in the machines still winning and them moving on to other worlds to colonize. However, 2B's spirit was still strong and somehow still tried to fight alongside 9S and A2 again. To break the cycle and try to find her new purpose, 2B continues to fight against the machines once she restores 9S.
No matter how much suffering she will endure, 2B will fight on to bring glory to both mankind and her future.
Alita
Before she was reborn as the Battle Angel, there was once a cyborg named Yoko “Sonaan''. Yoko was born as an infant from an effect of maske tumor in Cydonia in ES 370 and became very healthy to live on Mars. Humans were finally able to settle at last on the planet, and war broke out throughout the entire solar system. Due to the expansion of travel, many federations and governments were made to take control of the world's terraforming which caused many battles, diseases, and disasters like the Geo Catastrophe. Or The Fall from the movie’s view. Living on Mars was a literal warzone where no one was safe.
Yoko’s mother, Nollin Sonaan, was suffering from a rare tumor disease given by a rigged trap and suffered hellish experiments to find a cure. Yoko was cut off from her mother by a mad scientist's curiosity about science, but thankfully, Yoko was not infected by the effects and become healthy quickly. Yoko’s tumor health became aware of a man named Baron Muster, who was Nollin Sonaan’s brother and sadly affected by the same disease. Yoko’s name was given, and Baron Muster plotted to use her to overthrow a brutal princess Kagura Dornburg, who was the one who used the family to find keys to a treasure and forced his family to find the tumor cure.
Many years later, Yoke is a child shown surviving the harsh lands of Mars with only her closest friend Erica Wald. After being bullied at an orphanage, becoming the only survivors of a massacred town. Alita would be separated from Erica for a little while, and it was believed she was of royal blood Dornburg herself. Alita would never know she was living with a false mother figure who was an agent to guard her, then having the scheming mother killed by Erica, after having a bounty hitlist on her, which all died. And on the day Alita was supposed to be crowned, it was discovered her birth mother was the late sister of her kidnapper as planned. And to complete the cycle of karma, Muster finally got his revenge by destroying all of Cydonia and taking the princess’s life alongside him.
Yoko and Erica lived, but they had to continue surviving due to the false naming and Cydonia's collapse. Thankfully one of the bounty hunters gave them an address, and they met new people, but Erica did not think of her actions and exposed one of the spies that almost got her and Yoko killed. Thankfully, those people were related to or in the Grünthal. Martial arts warriors called Kunstler. They were greeted by one of the soldiers who had met once before and their future master, Gelda. Gelda met them when armed forces caught Yoko and had Yoko cross a minefield for her execution, which she needed help with walking due to her baby age. This is where she meets Erica for the first time by helping her walk across the field. Right before they were about to step on a mine, they were saved by Gelda. Yoko would join and be trained by the Grünthal for the rest of her young youth. Sadly, she had a heartbroken relationship with Erica and sparred in a beating so bad Yoko killed Erica, but let’s ignore that.
By the time Yoko was a young adult, she had been chosen for the most crucial task for the Grünthal: Operation Maulwurf. To keep it short, Yoko had the objective to put a powerful virus into a quantum supercomputer that would cause chaos to itself. While Yoko did cause a massive number of casualties known as the Camranh tragedy, she ultimately failed when she got caught and defeated by Caerula Sanguis, a mutated human with vampire abilities. The result was an alliance made of the truce of ending the war now tasked with destroying the Grünthal and the related members. Yoko was charged as a war criminal, and she was executed by atmosphere drop, where she crashed land and “died.”
Two hundred years later is where the events of Battle Angel take place when a doctor's physician finds a cyborg body in a scrapyard. Daisuke Ido would see Yoko’s body, which survived her drop from space but lost everything from her past. Repaired and given a new life, Ido would give her the name passed down from his deceased cat (or daughter in the movie’s view) and make her the angel she will become. Alita, or Gally in Japanese terms. Alita would start slowly finding her new way of life. She would become a bounty hunter after crossing in one of Ido’s bounties, becoming a favorite player in Motorball, and exploring her memories to unlock her past.
Till she had her first lover, Hugo, die, get a lot of attention and enemies, and suffered another close call execution. Alita would be saved at the last minute to work as a Tuned agent, only to fight clones of herself, literally dies, and gets reborn as a human after turning into a fucking tree (yes, this happened) to save Tiphares. Til the ending gets reconned very hard in Last Order, would again catch in the middle of another power struggle between the solar system and lead a team in a tournament to end the battle. Yeah, Alita had it tough on her second chance at life.
Yet, this time she gains friends and a new family to help her protect her loved ones. Later after winning a tournament to save a friend, she discovers some of her past and, shockingly, that she was not the official Alita, an android because her “organic brain” was separated from herself, and her chip somehow became a part of it. Now one with the supercomputer she tried to destroy as Yoko, she would revive herself and her brain to change their fates. Where the now organic Alita would now live a peaceful life, and the android Alita would continue to finish the puzzle of her memories and explore her new fate. Mars Chronicle shows Alita at last three years later on Mars and tries to help her once best friend Erica, who’s now an undead assassin, and tries to cure her while caught again in another power struggle war.
Many faces she has explored across the solar system and many foes she has made both past and present that Alita fought and nearly killed herself a few times. But, no matter what tournaments, governments, or allies she shall face, Alita shall always come back as the Angel of Death to protect her family and friends.

Small Swords
Virtuous Contract
2B’s primary weapon of choice, Virtuous Contract, is a short sword that allows the user to make fast cuts to the enemies. It increases 2B’s attack speed and gains a unique ability called “Holy Blessing,” which grants the user’s attacks a rise in power when at total health.
In Re[in]carnation, Virtuous Contract is a light-based weapon and allows more skills to the user like:
Virtuous Pursuit: Deals a max of 31% damage to one enemy four times, and more than two chains increase the damage of 2x by a maximum of 13% for ten seconds.
Virtuous Fleetfoot: Deal max 36% damage three times to one enemy and increase agility by 6.1 % at max for ten seconds.
Bold Vigor: Damage up by max 13.5% when HP is at total health.
Fleetfoot: Agility up by max 6.7%.
Cruel Oath
Nine’s primary weapon for battle, another short sword, ensures the user can keep up with 2B. But thanks to the RPG rule, 2B can use this weapon to allow herself to increase her attack speed. The unique ability for Cruel Oath called Dark Impulse will improve the user's attack power when low health.
In Re[in]carnation, Cruel Oath is a dark based weapon and allows more skills to the user like:
Cruel Darkness: Deals max 41% damage to one enemy four times and a 20% chance to inflict blind for three turns.
Cruel Fleetfoot: Deal max 36% damage three times to one enemy and increases agility by max 6.1 % for ten seconds.
Fleetfoot: Agility up by max 6.7%.
Beastbane
A sword designed with a beast-like motif. The Beastbane allows the user to increase their durability. Its unique ability is called Beast Roar, which increases one's range of attacks.
Engine Blade
What’s a Final Fantasy sword doing in a Nier game? Wielded by Noctis Lucis Caelum, the Engine Sword allows the user to stun enemies when attacking. And the best part? Thanks to Shift Avoid, one can look and slash with a style like Noctis. Since it is the same blade from FF XV, it also has unique abilities. The blade was made to absorb the elemental powers of slain enemies, like Mega Man. While Engine Blade can be upgraded to the better version Ultima Blade which also increases HP and Magic, it can not be added since Autoama has not been shown to elevate from that sword.
Note: The rest of the abilities like teleporting are exclusive to Noctis’s abilities rather than the sword itself, so 2B does not get teleportation from the blade.
Faith
A loyal servant who once wielded this blade. Faith allows the user to increase attack speed. Its unique ability called Bullet Absorb lets one heal when slicing enemy projectiles.
In Re[in]carnation, Faith is a water-based weapon.
Type-4O Sword
An advanced blade used by YoRHa elites, this sword allows the user to make enemies easier to become stunned. A unique ability called Energy Charge grants power to the sword when not being used for a few seconds.
In Re[in]carnation, Type-4O is a light-based weapon and allows more skills to the user like:
Type-4O Pursuit: Deals max 42% damage to one enemy five times and increases damage by max 17% for ten seconds.
Type-4O Vertigo: Deal max 42% damage four times to one enemy and a 10% chance of inflicting stun for one turn.
Vigor: Increase attack up by max 17.1% for one minute.
Aegis: Defense up by max 8.5%.
Mock Type-4O Sword
An upgrade to the original Type-4O sword and 2P’s primary weapon of choice. Not much is told about it except in Re[in]carnation.
In Re[in]carnation, Mock Type-4O is a light-based weapon and allows more skills to the user like:
T-4O Copy Bold Vigor: Deals max 81% damage to one enemy four times and increases damage by max 36% when health is over 80%.
T-4O Copy Ward: Deal a max of 42% damage three times to one enemy and increase all allies' defense by max of 5.4% for ten seconds.
Lucid Boon: Increase light damage by max 24.4%
Ambush: Critical Rate up by max 8.1%.
Type-3 Sword
An old sword used by previous YoRHa models Popola and Devola. The weapon allows an increase in the user’s durability. Its unique ability has no name, yet anytime a combo is done, it always ends with an explosion.
Ancient Overlord
A malicious sword once used by an immortal overlord. The weapons allow an increased chance of getting critical damage. Again, there is no particular name for its ability, but it can create shockwaves when striking enemy projectiles.
In Re[in]carnation, Ancient Overlord is a water-based weapon and allows more skills to the user like:
Ancient Bold Vigor: Deals max 89% damage to one enemy two times and increases damage by max 16% when health is over 80%.
Ancient Assault: Deal max 41% damage five times to one enemy and increase the critical rate by max 5.4% for ten seconds.
Bold Vigor: Increase damage by max 12.2% when HP is above 70%.
Ambush: Critical Rate up by max 8.1%.
YoRHa-issue Blade
A sword passed on to 2B as a memento from Unit 11B (Truly one of the saddest side quests in Automata). The blade with one unique ability allows 2B to reduce the cooldown for her pods. More on that later.
In Re[in]carnation, YoRHa-issue Blade is a dark based weapon and allows more skills to the user like:
YoRHa Blitz: Deals max 60% damage to one enemy five times.
YoRHa Vigor: Deal max 43% damage four times to one enemy and increase attack by max 9% for ten seconds.
Vigor: Increase attack by max 17.9% for one minute.
Fleetfoot: Agility up by max 8.9%.
Phoenix Dagger
A dagger used in ceremonial grounds, in theory, is made from phoenix feathers. The dagger increases speed for the user and allows the ability Phoenix Flash which restores health when attacking.
Machine Sword
The most common word used by the machine lifeforms. It allows Machine Brand's ability, permanently increasing the weapon’s power for every slain enemy. The limits are unknown.
Iron Pipe
Iron Pipe has one of the highest damage values in 2B weaponry despite varying damage to every swing. It has two abilities called Critical+ to increase critical hit and High Stun to gain a higher chance of stunning foes.
Cypress Stick
A weapon to change all chess models and the damage number to the style of Dragon Age, thanks to Hero Sigil. It also has Critical+.
Long Swords
Virtuous Treaty
2B’s primary secondary for the heavy dicing. Like Virtuous Contract, it increases 2B’s attack speed, including having Holy Blessing.
In Re[in]carnation, Virtuous Treaty is a light-based weapon and allows more skills to the user like:
Virtuous Soldier: Deals a max of 45% damage to one enemy four times, and more than two chains increase agility by max 15% for ten seconds.
Virtuous Valiance: Deal max 50% damage three times to one enemy and increase attack by max 7 % for ten seconds.
Aegis: Defense up by max 10%.
Vigor: Attack up by max 10%.
Cruel Blood Oath
9S’s heavy weapon when he wants to put more power in his attacks. Like Cruel Oath, it allows one to increase her attack speed and also has Dark Impulse.
In Re[in]carnation, Cruel Blood Oath is a dark based weapon and allows more skills to the user like:
Cruel Blitz: Deals max 77% damage to one enemy four times.
Cruel Valiance: Deal a max 42% damage three times to one enemy and increase all allies' attack by max 5.4 % for ten seconds.
Vigor: Increase attack up by max 8.1%.
Toughness: Increase HP by max 8.1%.
Iron Will
An iron THICK made for a blade. The heavy sword allows its user to increase durability with its ability called Steel Spine, which helps bring resistance to stagger. Mainly reduces the risk of becoming off-balance.
Fang of The Twins
A large ax that is cursed. This ax brings more chances to deal critical damage. It does not have a remarkable ability but can create shockwaves when striking at projectiles.
Beastlord
A broadsword with a design of a giant beast. The sword increases one’s durability while its ability, Beast Roar, increases the range of the attacks.
In Re[in]carnation, Beastlord is a wind-based weapon and allows more skills to the user like:
Beast Blitz: Deals max 47% damage to one enemy three times and increases damage based on combo length.
Beast Ripper: Deal max 41% damage five times to one enemy and decrease enemies attack by max 8% for ten seconds.
Pursuit: Damage up by max 12.2% on three or more chain attacks.
Vigor: Increase attack up by max 13.5% for one minute.
Phoenix Sword
A great sword, in theory, is made of Phoenix feathers. The sword is very similar to Phoenix Dagger, where it increases attack speed and has Phoenix Flash.
Type-4O Blade
One of A2’s primary weapons, the YoRHa Blade, to battle against Goliath-type machines. The sword allows stunning enemies much easier to perform. Its special attack is Energy Charge, the same as Type-4O.
In Re[in]carnation, Type-4O Blade is a light-based weapon and allows more skills to the user like:
Bladed Render: Deals max 36% damage to one enemy three times and reduces their defense by max 6.1% for ten seconds.
Bladed Vigor: Deal max 42% damage two times to one enemy and increase one's attack by max 6.1 % for ten seconds.
Vigor: Increase attack up by max 13.5% for one minute.
Fleetfoot: Increase agility by max 6.7%.
Type-3 Blade
A sword very outdated but is used by A2, Popla, and Devola. It increases one's durability and allows an explosion at the end of every combo.
In Re[in]carnation, Type-3 Blade is a fire-based weapon and allows more skills to the user like:
Bladed Fatality: Deals max 69% damage to one enemy four times and increase critical damage by max 16%.
Bladed Ward: Deal max of 42% damage three times to one enemy and increase all allies’ defense by max of 5.4 % for ten seconds.
Vigor: Increase attack up by max 16.3% for one minute.
Toughness: Increase HP by max 8.1%.
Machine Axe
A heavy ax made out of scrap. Like Machine Sword, it has Machine Brand, and the limits are unknown on the power.

Virtuous Dignity
2B’s primary weapon when she wants to control her spacing. Similar to Virtuous Contract and Virtuous Treaty, it also increases her speed and has Holy Blessing.
In Re[in]carnation, Virtuous Dignity is a light-based weapon.
Cruel Arrogance
The spear that was once wielded by the man whose series is named after him. It increases the speed of one’s attack and has Dark Impulse.
Beastcurse
A beastly spear that looks like an ax. Like Beastlord, it increases one's durability and has Beast’s Roar.
Dragoon Lance
A powerful spear once used by a great warlord. It increases durability and has Dragon Wings which increases the powers of aerial attacks.
Phoenix Lance
A decorative spear, in theory, is made of phoenix feathers. Like Phoenix Dagger and Phoenix sword, the lance increases attack speed and has Phoenix Flash.
Type-4O Lance
A spear might be used by the elites of YoRHa’s commander guards. The lance allows enemies to be stunned easier and has Energy Charge as its ability.
In Re[in]carnation, Type-4O Lance is a light-based weapon and allows more skills to the user like:
Type-4O Ward: Deals a max 41% damage to one enemy five times and increases all allies’ defense by a best of 13% for ten seconds.
Type-4O Valiance: Deal max 41% damage four times to one enemy and increase all allies’ attack by max 5.4 % for ten seconds.
Aegis: Increase defense by max 8.1%.
Vigor: Increase attack up by max 16.3% for one minute.
Type-3 Lance
An old spear used by Popola and Devola. It increases durability and adds an explosion at the end of every combo.
In Re[in]carnation, Type-4O Lance is a light-based weapon and allows more skills to the user like:
Type-3 Blitz: Deals max 81% damage to one enemy five times.
Type-3 Render: Deal max 41% damage four times to one enemy and reduce enemies defense by max 8% for ten seconds.
Aegis: Increase defense by max 8.1%.
Vigor: Increase attack up by max 16.3% for one minute.
Spear of the Usurper
A double agent used a spear as a royal guard to slay his prince. Spear of The Usurper is overall 2B best weapon because it allows a higher chance of dealing critical damage. Especially its ability called Turning Coat gives 2B a chance to turn an enemy into an ally.
Machine Spear
A spear made from metallic scrap. Same as Machine Sword and Machine Ax of having Machine Brand and unknown limits.
Combat Bracers
Virtuous Grief
2B’s final primary weapon for hand-to-hand combat, designed as new white gauntlets with a samurai pattern. Same as all of 2B’s Virtuous weapons with increased speed and Holy Blessing.
In Re[in]carnation, Virtuous Grief is a light-based weapon and allows more skills to the user like:
Virtuous Ward: Deals a max of 41% damage to one enemy five times and increases all allies' defense by 13% max for ten seconds.
Virtuous Soldier: Deal max 41% damage four times to one enemy and increase all allies’ agility by max 5.4% for ten seconds.
Aegis: Defense up by max 8.1%.
Fleetfoot: Increase agility by max 6.7%.
Cruel Lament
9’s final primary weapon looks similar to Virtuous Grief, but its color is pitch black. Identical to the rest of Nines Cruel weapons, it increases the speed of attack for the user and has Dark Impulse.
Angel’s Folly
Gauntlets designed to be believed to be made from angel wings. The folly allows the user to increase the attack speed and its unique ability, Angel’s Mercy which restores health for every enemy slain by the gauntlet.
Demon’s Cry
Gauntlets fashioned after a demon’s fangs. The gauntlet allows the increase of attack speed, and its ability Devil’s Hatred adds a damaging shockwave to an enemy’s death.
Type-4O Fists
Powerful gauntlets made for YoRHa troops in the year 11940 A.D. They are designed to stun foes easier and have Energy Charge as their ability.
Type-3 Fists
Popola and Devola used old YoRHa gauntlets. It increases durability and adds explosions at the end of every combo.
Machine Heads
Gauntlets are made out of machine pieces. Identical to other machine weapons has to be Machine Brand which increases the weapon's power for every foe slain. Limits are unknown.
Emil Heads
The final combat bracer comes after defeating the Dark Souls boss Emil. The heads add Stun Up, and a new ability called Insanity called out attacks. It’s… not worth it.
Pods-042 (A), B, and C
2B’s most essential and faithful companion, a pod, is a remarkable flying unit that assists combat androids. For 2B, Pod-042 has become her main puppy. 042 has been a significant factor in most of 2B’s success, thanks to acting as her guide. The primary function is to offer information, having access to the YoRHa network to analyze enemies in adapting to the environment. The pods themselves have been shown to take control of enemy objects as big as an Engels's arm, can harm beings like Goliath class Engels and even machines Adam and Eve. For its abilities cab defend on its own, camouflage itself and the user (Memory Cage Ch.4), transfer/break limiters skills, hack, go inside user’s mind to support them even forced, help glide, assist in a homing attack, literally be bait for fishing, and most importantly, play fetch. They have minds of their own in being important roles of Route C and behind the True ending of Ending E.
Each pod is different with its style of using long-range attacks to lock on and switch instantly to various foes. 2B has collected a total of three within the game.
Pod 042 (A): 2B’s central pod has a Gatling gun style of shooting bullets. When fully upgraded, it can fire cluster bombs once charged.
Pod ??? (B): 2B’s second pod was found in the desert. This pod fires an endless energy arc and can bounce off enemies. When max out, ending the stream will somehow create bullets to launch and ricochet.
Pod ??? (C): The third pod found by accident while fishing, Pod (C) fires a barrage of missiles at the targeted enemies. It can fire up to ten missiles when fully upgraded and can drop cluster mines.
Pod Programs
What truly makes the pods very helpful for YoRHa androids is how versatile they can be, and it is thanks to the programs. The pod programs give the pods special weapons or abilities to change their equipment and make it easy to switch out. But, most require a cooldown for each activation until it is used again. Each program will get its section going in-depth into each program.
R010: Laser
The first program given to 2B is mostly Pod-42’s weapon of choice. As the title gives out, it fires a laser beam directly at a foe, and anything else caught within the line. When fully charged, all three pods can fire their beams.
R020: Mirage
This program allows the user’s pod to analyze the environment instantly and allows the user to deal with multiple slashes in an eye.
R030: Hammer
MC Hammer would be proud of having a program based on him, but in seriousness, as the name says, it forms as a hammer to slam down on foes. All three pods can create their hammers.
R040: Blade
The program for Blade, as named, allows the pod to turn itself into a blade and spin around the user to slice and project the user. Similar to Vergil’s Spiral Swords, each pod can turn into swords.
R050: Spear
This ability allows the pod to summon rows of spears underneath the enemy. Once charged, it can create spears that go in six different directions in a snap.
R060: P Shield
This program is different in focusing on creating energy shields surrounding the user to protect from melee attacks. When fully charged, the barrier will last up to thirteen seconds.
R070: M Shield
Very similar to R060 but focuses more on blocking projectiles than melee. It also lasts for thirteen seconds.
A080: Wave
Moreover, the assistance programs start with Wave, which allows the user to slam their pod to the ground to create a shockwave damaging all enemies caught by it. Charging increases the wave duration.
A090: Wire
This program does not have a cooldown since its only function is to attach a wire for the user to get back in close range. But, it does have a limit in length, but should it connect, the user shall launch back to the enemy.
A100: Decoy
Should the user feel the heat, they can use this program to make a copy to distract enemies. The decoy lasts for seven seconds, and a pod stays to protect it, but the user’s cover is exposed once destroyed. Thankfully, the user can have all three pods protect the decoy when charged.
A110: Slow
Like Nero’s Ragtime, the program somehow creates a field to distort time and space. Anyone besides the pod and user caught in the area will be slowed down.
A120: Repair
Should the user suffer damage, they will use this program for the pod to heal them. As long as they stay in the light, the user shall slowly heal up in seconds. All three pods will assist in a faster and better healing rate when charged.
A130: Bomb
As given, the pod can launch small bomb-like projectiles to explode. When charged, all three pods can fire their bombs.
A140: Gravity
Similar to Slow, but instead of slowing time, it sucks foes all nearby enemies in the field.
A150: Volt
Volt focuses more on one enemy as it creates a shock to suffer internal damage and slow down. Charging increases the damage and duration of the program.
A160: Missile
By using the pod’s head, even if it does not want to, the user grabs on and charges towards full speed, damaging anyone in the way.
A170: Scanner
The last pod program to speak was given to 2B by Popola and Devola. The scanner creates ultrasound waves around the pod surrounding the area to find hidden items or clues. It is not for combat purposes, but it was how 2B was able to find 9S when he got captured by Adam.
Visor
You were not the only one for those who thought the black bandage was just for style. There is a reason why all YoRHa units wear the application; they are military-level goggles in offering information. It collects data of information that includes using sound waves to analyze in a graph, analyze the environment, show health to self and enemies, and gather data going as far as recording enemies and their strengths.
Flight Unit
When 2B needs to go all out, the Flight Unit is ideally the trump card for all YoRHa units. Part airplane, and part mech, Flight Units are made for switching between mobility to combat for speed and agility. Flight Units are very fast, where 9S once flew from the YoRHa space station to 2B on Earth in twenty-eight seconds. Each unit comes with machine-gun bullets and missiles that can turn into a barrage, make an energy to form a sword, create another sword that can shoot a beam, fire a laser, and shield itself. It can also tank hits from Engels and tear through them when weakened, but its durability is not strong.
Black Box
Have to give credit to the Terminator series; they truly brought inspiration to mostly the plot of Automata, even the heart-like bomb part. To summarize, the black boxes are confusing yet play an essential role in the game: Black boxes are mostly the “heart” of both machines and androids. Their life force powers them never to be tired and always finish the fight. But should one be overpowered on the verge of losing; the black box can turn into a fusion reactor and self-destruct as one with the box. One black box alone was able to destroy a mountain, Mt. Ka’ala, in A2’s final mission with YoRHa, the Pearl Harbor Descent. More on that later. 2B and 9S have shown off using it twice by combining both of theirs for a faster and double damage attack. All YoRHa units hate doing this option because killing themselves would erase them permanently should their minds not be cloned and suffer side effects, but it will get the job done should one have no choice.
Items
This section is the items used in Automata, starting with the Restorative, then Enhancement, and then any other support items.
Recoveries: The common healing item 2B and the others use to regain health should one need it. There are four types of rallies: Small, Medium, Large, and Full. Small heals 25% of health, Medium half of health, Large 75%, and Full regains all health.
Visual Cure: An item to cure status ailments affecting visuals.
Aural Cure: An item that cures status ailments affecting aural
Cure Manipulation: A thing to fix any anomalies of control.
Cure All Status: A rare item that cures all status ailments.
Cure All + Heal All: A particular rare item to heal and cure all status ailments fully.
Melee Attack Up: A bracelet used to double the damage for weapon attacks. The small bracelet lasts for 15 seconds and the large for 30.
Melee Defense Up: A bracelet to reduce melee damage by 50%. The small bracelet lasts for 15 seconds and the large for 30.
Ranged Attack Up: A bracelet to double the damage for pod ranged attacks. The small bracelet lasts for 15 seconds and the large for 30.
Ranged Defense Up: A bracelet to reduce projectile damage by 50%. The small bracelet lasts for 15 seconds and the large for 30.
Volt-Proof Salve: Nullifies electrical attacks for 30 seconds.
Skill Salve: A bracelet to recharge pod programs twice as fast. The small bracelet lasts for 15 seconds and the large for 30.
Impact Bracer: A bracelet used to prevent staggering (stun effects) from attacks. The small bracelet lasts for 15 seconds and the large for 30.
Popola Booze: A potion that increases the power of weapon-based attacks for 30 seconds and restores total health.
Speed Salve: A bracelet to increase movement speed. The small bracelet lasts for 15 seconds and the large for 30.
Animal Bait: Animal foods to give the animals to ride them, like moose and hogs.
GLuck+: A bracelet used for getting more money dropped from enemies. The small bracelet lasts for 15 seconds and the large for 30.
E-Drug: Well, it’s a drug. For 30 seconds, it affects the visual and audio feeds while gaining random effects.
Forbidden Fruit: A fruit that should be eaten decreases the player’s level by 10.
Alita
Damascus Blades
Alita’s primary weapon of choice anytime she enters the battlefield. Her Damascus Blades are much different from the knives from a store because they can come in many forms and uses. Alita was introduced to these weapons when she became a player of MOTORBALL!!! The blades are made from a mixture of the highest quality metals in the scrapyard to attack fast and counter hard. Alita’s blades once cut through a chain weapon which was diamond-tipped, and those were regular blades before they got upgraded to the hard diamond the chain weapon was. She can also use one of them as a sword or extend it as a spear to gain more range. Later on, Alita would be able to create her blades, as shown above.
Guns
Alita is not afraid to use a firearm, which she has used a lot during her time as a Tiphares unit. She has used several guns, including a pistol the same as above with armor-piercing rounds, a revolver with Collapser, a 12.7mm semi-automatic rifle, and her best weapons to explore at the end of the section. Her pistol alone is strong enough to destroy walls and several vehicles.
Throwing Knives
Alita loves her knives since she carries a few for disarming and getting a quick shot CoD style.
Monofilament Wires
As a grappling hook, Alita’s friends Elf and Zwölf made a special strong wire for her. And coming from her finger is impressive with holding a gun and two grown men. The wire is sharper than any knife by having the strength of 2.4 tons, and is invisible to the naked eye.
Bug Drones
Alita can be scary, and her drones based on bugs do not help. Tiny machine bugs used for combat and Alita has shown many types of drones. Alita has shown to use the following:
Arachno: A spider drone made for setting up booby traps. It can be given commands from remote control or programming to use its webs as a wire to create a massive explosion. Similar to a claymore.
Missile Bees: As shown above, drones can target foes and are very accurate.
Lice Probes: Drones are used for scanning the surroundings and scouting enemies for traps or mines. Needs a connection to its source linked to work.
Firefly: A particular drone that turns itself into plasma for five seconds burning everything within its radius. It can burn tunnels, be used in combat, and generate Electronic Countermeasures (ECM) for a short time.
Laser Bug: Alita's final drone to gain communication through a laser. It is not used for combat but also has ECM features.
Mobile Unit
The Mobile Unit, Alita’s vehicle to travel, is a motorcycle-like vehicle that makes going through terrain easy.
Gabriel + Electromagnetic Needles
A two for one since both happen on the same page. Starting with Gabriel, a satellite that allows Alita to get assistance from the support system by launching a laser beam to attack foes or carry supplies and weaponry to sky drop to Alita from orbit.
As for the needles, Alita also carries unique electromagnetic hands that can paralyze the person who gets struck by them, as shown above.
Solenoid Quench Gunn
One of Alita’s trump cards for firepower, the Solenoid Quench Gunn, is a rail gun or a magnetic launcher for shooting down vital targets. Once dropped and charged by the laser of Gabriel, the Gunn can shoot armor-piercing rounds made out of solenoid, shooting at 5km/s. It has a hover drone attached to reduce recoil while aiming better. While the ammo capacity is unknown, the Gunn is strong enough to take down a cyborg named Den and his army within seconds.
Danko
After her three-year time skip of Last Order, Danko has become Alita's second-best trump weapon. And it’s alive, literally. Danko is a unique gun because it comprises Berserker cells and a Collapser, an anti-Berserker substance, to guide its bullets to a target. Like, Erron Black MKX X-Ray type of guidance. As shown above, the gun is alive and self-aware, and it can even fire shots without Alita’s command. However, because of this comes the cost of slower speed.
Abilities
2B
Android Physiology
In the world of Nier, androids are mostly the replacement of humans even though they do not fully understand it. Despite looking human where they can even bleed and getting personalities, androids are still robotic and receive abilities to make them continue the fight where humanity left off. While each YoRHa model has different fighting styles, they have shown superhuman skills. Androids can jump higher, push harder, and move so fast that they can create afterimages of themselves. And depending on the type of model unit, androids can push their limits even further thanks to the abilities they can achieve and amplify their bodies. 9S and 2P have been shown to create shields to block missiles even if the user is knocked out.
Also, in the Final Fantasy 14 crossover, Nines made about 11 decoys that can fight back.
Android Abilities
Plug-In Chips
You can not be an RPG game without customizing your abilities, and the answer for the androids was Plug-In Chips. As the name states, they are chips to gain unique skills and amplify the user in their condition. Each fragment will be shown starting from System to Hack, and some chips will be given their amazing slots to go into more depth depending on the ability itself.
System:
OS Chip: An android's central nervous system, mostly the body's brain. It can be removed, but…
HUD Damage Values: This allows the user to see the damages dealt and received.
HUD Enemy Data: The user can see enemies’ health and level.
HUD Objectives: Display information on the user tasks.
HUD Control: Hide HUD elements depending on the situation.
HUD Save Points: Display save points on the map.
HUD Mini-Map: This shows the mini-map.
HUD Text Log: This shows the text log.
HUD Skill Gauge: Shows the pod program skill and its cooldown.
HUD HP Gauge: Shows the user’s health.
HUD EXP Gauge: Shows the user’s Experience Points given and progress.
HUD Fishing Spots: The title says it. You can find where to fish.
HUD Sound Waves: This shows a sound analysis graph.
Attack:
Critical Up: Increase required hit rate by 1% to 30% Max.
Counter: Move toward an enemy’s attack to counter with perfect timing. Counter power ranges from 0% to 250% Max.
Shock Wave: Adds a shock wave to weapon attacks
Charge Attacks: Increases power of charged attacks ranging from 120% to 400% Max.
Weapon Attack Up: Increases the attacks of the weapons themselves. Ranges from 2% to 100% Max.
Down-Attack Up: Increases power of down-based attacks, ranging from 2% to 100% Max.
Ranged Attack Up: Increase the power of projectile attacks, ranging from 2% to 100% Max.
Last Stand: Should HP fall at or below 25%, increase attack power. Ranges from 5% to 100% Max.
Continuous Combos: Continues attacking while evading.
Defense:
Melee Defense: Reduce damage taken from melee attacks, ranging from 2% to 80% Max.
Ranged Defense: Reduce damage from projectile attacks, ranging from 2% to 80% Max.
Resilience: Avoid getting stunned or staggering if health falls over the x%. Ranges from 80% max to 5%.
Max HP Up: Increases the maximum level of health, ranging from 5% to 100% Max.
Offensive Heal: Recover health by the number of damage done to foes, ranging from 2% to 100% max.
Auto-Healing: After 4-6 seconds of taking no damage, restore the number of health every second. Ranges from 0.6% to 18% max.
Deadly Heal: Regan health for every enemy defeated ranges from 5% to 100% Max.
Support:
Auto-Use Item: As the name suggests, instantly use a healing item if HP drops below 30%. Adds more healing rates ranging from 10%-200%
The next few chips are based on players who do not want to get good at a game.
Auto-Attack: This chip lets the user attack right away.
Auto-Fire: This allows the pods to right away fire at enemies.
Auto-Evade: If only Gohan could have used this, it allows the user to automatically DODGE!!!
Auto-Program: This allows the pods to use their pod programs instantly.
Auto Switch Weapons: The final never get good chip allows to switch weapons instantly.
Moving Speed Up: Back to actual skill chips. This chip increases movement speed between 2% to 20%, Max.
EXP Gain Up: Increase the amount of EXP from slain foes, ranging from 2% to 100% Max.
Taunt Up: Increase user and enemy attack power, ranging from 180%-500% Max.
Evade Range Up: Increase the range of evading between 10% to 200% Max.
Drop Rate Up: Increase the rate of items dropped from enemies, ranging from 10% to 90%.
Auto-Collect Item: Items are instantly drawn to the player and collected.
Vengeance: A 5%-50% Max chance of 10%-200% Max damage taken can be dealt back to the enemy.
Fast Cooldown: Reduce pod program cooldown between 2% to 50% Max.
Item Scan: Display the locations of items on the mini-map.
Hacking:
Hijack Boost: Strengthen remotely controlled foes, and increase the level from one to nine.
Combust: Short-circuit causing a foe to catch one fire for seconds. Ranges from three to seven seconds.
Stun: Zapping a hacked foe will emit a blast to stun others, including itself, for several seconds— the range and seconds last from 5m for 3 seconds to 25m for 5 seconds max.
Heal Drops Up: High chance of getting healing items dropped by foes when beaten by hacking. Ranges from 10% to 100% Max.
Death Rattle: Enemies scream death cries when they die from hacking.
Regeneration
As shown throughout the Plug-In Chips, weapons, and items, 2B has shown to have many methods of healing herself, going as far as gaining minor abilities of regeneration. Thanks to the forms like nanomachines, it allows the user like 2B to heal depending on the technique. She has many styles of healing for the chips, whether it is from not taking hits with Auto-Healing, dealing damage to foes with Offensive Heal, or from slain enemies with Deadly Heal. 9S has also shown that androids can reanimate their limbs using others’ body parts.
Invincibility
Another special is given to the Anti Chain Damage, which allows the user to gain invincibility for a short frame. When a certain amount of damage is taken, the chip will activate to become invincible between 0.5 to 6 seconds.
Resurrection
Should 2B or all players suffer a game over, you better get those chips back from your body if you do not want to get your abilities again. As shown throughout Automata, androids can come back to life should one die from fighting. It is the core of the game itself and has delivered many styles of coming back to life throughout the game. Here are all the ones found in the game:
YoRHa Network: The most common way of “coming back” all YoRHa units is to be connected to the YoRHa network. The Network is the main communication center of YoRHa that allows every android to be connected. YoRHa has many bodies made to transfer their minds, more or less, into one of them. This happened to 2B and 9S after using their black boxes. However, it is not perfect since the destruction of YoRHa was because of the connection itself.
Reset: The second method to come back to life is this plug-in chip; it depends on chance. Should the user die, they have between a 5% to 50% max to come back to life, restoring the health of 10% to 80% max. Should they fail, they stay dead.
Necromancy/Repair: This one most would not think of till mentioned; 2 B along with 9S and A2 have shown they can bring back fallen players who died and fight with the user. However, it is best not to do it when infected.
Pods: Spoilers for Ending E, the True Ending. Somehow, at the end of the game, both Pods of 2B and 9S could bring back their owners, including A2, to life. While the timeline on how they were repaired is debatable, it took less than almost 31 days stated in Farewell. The visual novel A Short Story and Short Story Farewell confirm they mainly were successful.
Absorption
A weird ability the androids can do is they somehow can absorb specific targets. 2B has shown two different ways of absorption in the game. The first, more prominent, is choosing to retrieve fallen allies' bodies, including herself. This is how the player retrieves your chips should one die to regain some health and three random items or effects.
The second method comes from a chip called Damage Absorb, which allows the chance of 5% to 50% max for restoring health from damage taken. HP restore ranges from 10% to 200% Max.
Time Manipulation
Another ability weird by mixing magic and sciences somehow allows controlling time flow. Not to the extent of changing reality and more, as shown above, affecting oneself or the specific area, slowing those targeted. There are three methods shown in the game in showing time manipulated. The first is displayed with the Pod Program Slow by having the pod and user a few seconds move faster than those in it.
The other two are both plug-in chips with different uses. OverClock activates on every perfect evasion, slowing down the attacker, lasting between 0.8 to 5.5 seconds Max. The other plugin called Evasive System allows the user to slow down time when near projectiles and has no cooldown limit.
Explosion Manipulation
With the last hax abilities, 2B has shown some control of explosions. Some weapons like the Type-3 Sword and Type-3 Fists show how much power the user has over them without side effects. And the plugin chip Bullet Dentation helps even more by hitting any projectiles like bullets to detonate them. Bullet Dentation has no time limit.
Weapon Mastery
Most can tell she is prepared for combat throughout the weapon sections for 2B’s side. Thanks to the type of model as a Type-E, 2B has learned to know her weapons like they are storybooks. Mastering all weapons, she can use two weapons at once and make a second set to switch to the other group instantly. She can also be very creative with her collections, such as using her bracers as a baseball, shooting bracers as a rocket, or using all four weapons.
Hand to Hand Combat
In some situations, 2B has shown some skills in hand-to-hand combat. While more passive with bare fists and not being fatal against her enemies, she is shown to perform memorable takedowns even without weapons or fighting other YoRHa androids at close range.
Telekinesis
As most would notice by now in how most YoRHa androids have held their weapons, 2B has shown to have masterly telekinesis. It is one of the main fighting styles for 2B as she has often used her swords for power and combos. She can throw her blades to bounce back, similar to a boomerang, or summon beams as a chair. Somehow. Her weapons always come back to her through some teleportation sprinkled with the ability. The power of her telekinesis can go further as she once took a note from Radien about using their enemy’s arm as a weapon. Keep in mind that while the Pod played a significant role in setting up, 2B was the one who was wielding the arm for the rest of the fight.
Self-Destruct
The final ability granted to all updated models like 2B, one can activate their self-destruct feature if the situation becomes dire. With a two-second charge, 2B can use her body to explode out energy to destroy anyone within a blast radius. Similar to Shadow the Hedgehog’s Chaos Blast. However, the highest price not only comes from the cost of taking nearly all the user’s health but also exposes their most outstanding features for everyone to see. Even ladies are traumatized.
Being professional again, 2B is not afraid of using her self-destruct when determined and has creative ways of making sure her target stays at point-blank range. The ability once ended when either 2B or 9S destroys the bunker with their self-destruct.
Alita
Cybernetic Physiology
Similar to other cyborgs from different series explored in past Death Battles, the ones in the universe of Alita are complex. They are the human race who replace their bodies with artificial, mechanical, or robotic parts through cyberization. However, it is the addition of their human biology that gets confusing. Cyborgs still keep some human body features such as aging, getting diseases like tumors, and eating. Points for the movie getting that last small detail right.
The state of a cyborg’s body depends on the type of body. Do you know the movie Robots and the scene where Robin Williams switches bodies? Cyborgs, including Alita, as shown above, can do the same. While most require outside support in repairing and medical care, the cyborg race was made for doing the danger. They have shown numerous times to have superhuman speed, strength, and endurance. Each body has its power status and specific abilities depending on the worn suit.
Most importantly, it also allows them to gain some gains of immortality. Many cyborgs like Alita are over a hundred years old, whether a chip or the brain itself, which was why Alita survived after her 200-year coma. This was even mentioned in the movie.
Note: All of Alita's suits will be explored more in the Forms sections, but the abilities will be shown with a 🔶 to avoid confusion.
Panzer Kunst
All be careful; she knows Kung-Fu. Panzer Kunst is a unique martial art used by cyborgs to fight any opponent, especially in zero-gravity. Its central concept is to predict cyborgs' actions and ignore defense, whether armed, unarmed or even within range. The combat primarily allows the user to control their energy, or chi, through vibration manipulation and can make insane moves. Despite the technique being nearly erased and Alita losing her memories, the Kunstler blood still flows through her. It is considered one of the most vital materials arts in the series and has helped Alita throughout her journey since childhood.
Similar to other martial arts, there are several classes of the Panzer Kunst system, which are Anfänger (Beginner), Tzereter (Enthusiast), Lehrling (Apprentice), Geselle (War Artisan), Krieger (Warrior), Hoher Krieger (High Warrior), Meister (Master), Adept (Licensed Master), and Altmeister (Elder). While Alita’s ranking was never confirmed, what shown is that Alita should be at the same level as a master when she defeated this woman cyborg who was a master of Chinese Martial Arts, similar to Panzer Kunst. The cyborg Qu Tsang quickly kicked Alita’s friend Sechs’s ass in a tournament, and then she returned the favor by kicking her ass. Another master-level cyborg also suffered the same fate to confirm the statement.
Now, let’s explore the moves and the abilities each one presents:
Hertza Haeon: Alita’s most common technique, this move delivers a high-frequency vibration strike to the victim, even with armor, causing damage to the internal organs. What is scarier is how later on, Alita used the move to do more insane accuracy, such as nullifying thousands of soliton waves in one of her friend's brains, destroying a helmet without touching it, and powering her electromagnetic waves to overpower and redirect plasma made of 100,000 degrees Celsius. However, matching the same power and frequency will cancel the Haeon itself.
Verschlag: A set-up moves from Hertza Haeon. An internal strike that triggers a shock wave bounces inside the body like a rubber ball before focusing on the extremities. The target may notice this as a ringing in their ears. It can be spotted and canceled out, but enough can spread like a virus.
Hertza Nadel: The advanced move of Hertza Haeon. After Verschlag sets up its shockwave, a second strike explodes the target from within using the energy set up by Verschlag. Hertza Nadel is mostly the second phrase of Verschlag, where once the bouncing overpowers the prey, it will explode them. The person becomes a time bomb that the explosion can spread to others.
Hertzer Fahren: Fires a Verschlag upon the first contact with the target, then destroys the extremities while attacking the body in a single motion. This move was used to defeat Qu Tsang.
Elbogen Blatt: A weapon-based style of fighting that teaches the user to fight with a single blade. It was one of Alita’s first rediscovered moves during her time in Motorball with her Damascus Blades and became a big part of her combat style later in her ZOTT tournament.
Geschoss Schlag: A supersonic punch, Alita's sonic punch applies electromagnetism for fast acceleration. The catch is the force can be easy to predict and blocked.
Ausser Stosse: A counter-attack to redirect the kinetic energy of an attacking opponent back at them like using a spin, adding to the momentum of the künstler's counterattack.
Plasma Jet: Another signature attack from Alita, this move allows her two fingers to control the ionized air to create and emit a 15000° C jet to attack at high speeds with her hands. In other words, she turns her hand into a heat cutter and can cause almost anything it slices to explode. She later improved by using all her fingers for Plasma Jet. Plasma Jet has been shown to cut through thick armor plating, giant walls, ignite smoke itself, and lots of cyborgs.
Plasma Bite: Another version of Plasma Jet, Alita uses it at close range and briefly uses it. Used for quick attacks and is very fast.
Javelin Palm: A new move she created on the spot, Alita turns her palm into an anti-tank gun and fires directly at a foe. While the attack takes time to recharge, it is super effective.
Javelin Kick: Like Javelin Plam, she turns her heel as the barrel. It is super effective since it one-shots this big guy from the head.
Plasma Soliton: Alita’s ultimate and terrifying attack, Alita forces a buildup of plasma between herself and the opponent before using the opponent's electromagnetic waves against them, blasting them with the built-up plasma. In other words, it is a Hertzer Haeon made up of Alita’s energy and has enough power to go through another plasma move that caused the action to reach 100,000 degrees Celius.
Unnamed Suicide Move: Mentioned only once, Alita was taught a move to kill herself during her life as Yoko for Grünthal: Operation Maulwurf. When she got captured, she went against using it.
Einzug Rüstungen: The most favorite technique for Künstler users. By matching one’s rhythm of movement to the opponent's, the Künstler strikes when the opponent's guard is weakest, gaining a critical hit.
Einsatzrhythmen: A rare technique that allows the user to use their chi to entirely nullify the opponent's chi, completely halting any attack they might have launched.
Kumai Sharin Kyaku: Moving on to the one-time moves used, the künstler pushes off the ground with their hands to launch themselves into the air feet first and position themselves above an opponent. Somersaulting in midair, they then attack with both feet extended.
Sharin Choshu: The künstler runs and throws themselves into a forward roll before vertically launching with their feet facing up. Alita used this move to slice through a foe’s arm that was bigger than her.
Senkai Kyaku: The künstler kicks up with one leg and then brings their foot down for the initial strike. They then bring their other foot up to kick in a circle with both feet. Alita sent close to ten grown men into a ball and out of a bar with Senkai Kyaku.
Kumai Sharinraku: The künstler leaps vertically into the air, executes a forward somersault, and slams both heels onto the target. Alita physically decapitated another prominent foe by using this move.
Schatten Forgen: Onto move sets shown from other Kunstler users, Schatten Forgen is a move to dodge attacks and stay in the foe’s blind spot. Erica loves this move and has fought Alita with it.
Kugel Keit: Another move Erica uses somehow lets the user BE A FUCKING GUN!!! Erica used her fingers or mouth as the barrels and deflected Alita’s Dawko at point-blank range.
Seinerweisen: Ideally, Seinerwesisen is a unique technique created by each Künstler that is uniquely based on their own body's construction and unteachable by theory. Alita has made several moves based on this technique, such as Plasma Bite and Javelin Palm or Kick.
Bombe Kunst: Erica used a proximity bomb skill to attach a micro bomb to a foe. She has used this on Alita during their rematch on Mars.
🔶 Plasma Manipulation
Should Alita be in a tight, she can control her energy to get more serious. Alita has used power like her chi, life force energy like your own body, and electromagnetism to increase moves for offense and defense. At the start of her journey, Alita summoned lighting, created a shield of an electromagnetic field (Shown Above Too), and increased her powers to her Kunstler move set. Near the end of Last Order, Alita can control plasma itself, expanding her capabilities further like making decoys, manipulating another’s mind, or increasing her speed.
🔶Sound Manipulation
During Alita’s journey, she has heightened senses thanks to sound-like manipulation. While she can use UltraSonic Imaging, Alita can do without since she senses currents of air and electrical all within 15 meters around her. Near the end, Alita’s senses heightened even further as she used sonar and waves to detect her surroundings shown above. She can scan her opponents with the use of echolocation.
🔶Hacking
Alita once had to fight a cyborg named Trinidad; the guy getting punched was the best hacker in the series who has like four brains, which resulted in her reaching high levels of hacking. Her first encounter did not go well against Trinidad as he hacked Alita through physical contact and nearly killed her by draining her energy and then voting her out. However, after gaining a significant power boost, Alita would fight him again in his field and kick his ass so severely that she harmed his natural body. Like the Matrix type of harm. And Alita was just an avatar she made up while Alita was taking a nap. It was pretty impressive that he was unaware of Alita hacking into his cyberspace until it was too late.
🔶Precognition
Another critical ability Alita has shown is predicting her foes. Thanks to her time fighting, she gained high levels of precognition. Alita is all about predicting her competitors, even when at a disadvantage. She even got better at making her brain slow down time like in the FEAR games. It also helps that she has a computer that predicts the future, but more on that later.
Hand to Hand Combat
Thanks to hard training in the past, Alita became a threat, especially in combat. Being a Kunstler has made her dangerous at hand-to-hand combat and even makes the most challenging core veterans nervous about the power Alita poses. Even before her power-up boosts, Alita could defeat professional bounty hunters, including the MotorBall champion Jashugan who came to respect her even after she killed him.
Weapons Mastery
As shown in the weaponry section, Alita is still dangerous when using her 2nd Amendment rights. Alita’s time as a Tuned Unit, bounty hunter, and motor ball player has taught her that being armed can help change the battle in her favor. Showing great accuracy thanks to her training as a Kunstler, Alita uses her blades, bugs, knives, and guns for more firepower to gain critical blows.
Willpower
When Alita has a goal, she is determined to achieve it no matter the odds. Whether it is her chip or her literal brain, Alita's conscience reminds herself of what she is fighting for in her identity. Alita’s survival instincts have ideally been the source of regaining her memories because of being determined to fight and survive. Erica Wald, who has been with Alita the closest, confirmed. One time one of her enemies, yet sometimes an ally Desty Nova hacked her body and put Alita to sleep where she fought past foes in her mind. The outcome resulted in Alita facing her fears and waking up from Nova’s hack by herself.
Later on, Alita would get a new body and die again, which needed her willpower to fuse with a key and succeed. As shown above, in the aftermath she became immune to both Trinidad’s and Super Nova; Desty Nova is now a cyborg, with high levels of hacking while her friends were affected.
🔶 Nanomachine Manipulation
How did Alita become so hard to kill? Nanomachines Son! One of the two most extensive abilities Alita has gained throughout her series is having access to nanotechnology. It has played a significant role in Alita’s strongest suits she has worn which will be explained later. Alita has used nanomachines to become stronger and gain new moves over time. She showed nanomachines to corrosion on the attack and restrain many foes no matter the size, shapeshift her body, adapt new functions, and absorb any solid weight. Other users who used nanomachines have been shown to fly, turn limbs into tentacle-like spears, and make lighting themselves in the form of a ball.
🔶 Regeneration + Resurrection
Alita’s final ability is mostly her most important one, healing. Thanks to the nanomachines, Alita pushed the limits of what most cyborgs would be killed from, making her an angel. While at the start, she could heal minor wounds like in the movie shown and reanimate limbs. At the end of Last Order, Alita went beyond the levels of healing similar to Marvel’s Hulk, which most would be impressed with. She has been killed by Super Nova and destroyed by Toji’s Tornado attack made of plasma by his punches leaving only pieces of Alita. She heals from both situations, with the first being accepted by Fate Morgana with only her willpower to come back to life and the second using energy thanks to Zeus, or the Jupiter Dynamo, as shown above. When Alita demonstrated creating a human body, that moment got into the WTH category. While the second time was from her friends, just her brain confirmed the ending of Last Order, the first time in the original canon ending of Battle Angel showed her naturing herself. It took five years to do it, but she fully recovered.

Alita
Note: Alita’s forms will go from weakest to strongest to present how much development she has gone through the series at the max power.
Yoko’s body
Before Alita crashed on Earth and was reborn, she was still Yoko from Mars. This was mainly her original body, and she spent a lot of her time becoming an essential member of the Grünthal. Yoko has put her Panzer skills to the test as she was strong enough to kill Erica and massacre a whole squad of soldiers single handedly. Just a shame her career was short-lived and got dropped to the Earth literally.
“Original” Body
While Yoko’s youth is essential, Alita’s first steps of her series all begin when Ido finds her in the Scrapyard. Ido brought and built the very first suit she used to start her journey. The body was never made for combat and has been one shot, but it did not stop her from beating up Makaku and her first kill reborn from the dead.
Civilian Body
Alita used this body to take a break from the fighting alongside Ido, but since she is the main protagonist, that was short-lived. While it has the same weakness in lacking combat, the Civilian body has shown impressive superman feats. Alita was led to jump to match a four-story building, take a beating from an improved Zapan, and match a cyborg called Sonic Finger, who shot metal pebble balls as if they were bullets.
Motorball Body
Also called the Circuit-Rider, the Motorball body was made for bloody combat. After she failed to save her first lover Hugo, she became a player in Motorball to release her stress. It was there where she got her Damascus Blades and caught the eyes of the champion of Motorball Jashugan. The body is all about speed and agility since she can move and react between 200 to 300 kilometers per hour. In the movie, she tanked a shockwave of a missile nearly hitting her, while the manga was not affected by a flamethrower. Both cinema and manga present Alita destroying the field with her skills, but Jashugan put her to the test and nearly won if he had not died. But, like Alita, his willpower was strong even after his body had given out.
Tuned Body
Alita got this body by becoming one of the first members of the TUNED, where she spent ten years on the force. The body is soft and uses nanotechnology for vital systems gaining access to her weapons like Gabriel and the bug drones. Alita has expanded her skillset alone over her years with the TUNED since she disabled a bomb in seconds, materialized water into oxygen, and defeated five cyborg ninjas all at once. This is the part some of her sound manipulation abilities kick in, where she can see the colors of electricity within 15 meters. However, powerful or shaped weapons can pierce her because of the suit’s soft weight.
Berserker Body
Now we are getting to the trump cards for Alita, starting with one of her classic bodies. Ido found the Berserker armor from a crashed ship in the source, and where Alita begins to have the plasma, nanomachine, and regeneration manipulations which are shown through the rest of the bodies from here. While the name can be confusing, especially if you compare it to Gut’s Berserker armor, the difference between the two, when unsealed, allows the user to absorb any solid matter. Thankfully for Alita, she could have complete control of the armor despite the risk of losing the body to the special cells. The Berserker has been shown to gain electromagnetic powers, like summoning lighting, which the anime supported, and can connect to other beings as life support. However, there is an big counter to the Berserker. Remember the revolver that had the Collapser? That and anti-Berserker rounds were the answer to the cells by destroying them.
Mars Chronicle Body
Note: Because Mars Chronicles is still ongoing and focusing on backstory as of now, this body will be placed in the middle of Alita’s Trump cards to present her current status.
After three years since the events of Last Order, Alita returns to her home planet with a new body not officially named yet. Little depth was shown by Alita and what happened between those years, but what was foretold was that she spent the time doing some personal assignments on Venus, as shown on the panel for Danko. The suit has no known abilities so far. Yet, Alita was evenly matched with Erica Wald and easily defeated Tsai Tzykrow, the karate master mentioned in the Panzer Kunst panel. However, her regeneration has gotten a downgrade.
Imaginos
At last, here is Alita’s most fabulous trump card and her most powerful body. Imaginos made Alita truly earn her name as the Angel of Death. After her shocking demise, she was brought back to life by Nova and made Imaginos. The cells themselves were based on the Berserker cells and improved upon their structures, now called Imaginos cells, with both Last Order and non-canon ending of Battle Angel support. By having the same functions as a human body, Alita expanded her limits and evolved into stages throughout the events of Last Order. Each stage of Alita with Imaginos and her growth shall be looked into in detail.
Imaginos 1.0: Before video games came up with the idea of in-game updates, Alita just got the original version of Imaginos. Thanks to nanotechnology improving her abilities, Alita would continue her journey, especially in her fights in the tournament. Literally, at the start of the mastery of her new body, Alita defeated Sech and used precognition without her awareness. She was strong enough to power through 100,000 degrees celsius of plasma, made decoys, fought and caught Tsai, who was invisible, suit explained here, and barely defeated Caerula Sanguis. In the non-canon ending of Battle Angel, Imaginos 1.0 ran up Tiphares Space Elevator within two minutes and can destroy a turret within 0.09 centiseconds.
Imaginos 2.0: Thanks to Caerula’s trust and SuperNova killing her, Alita gained a new look and a tail for some reason after coming back from the dead. Upgraded and chosen to save the future by fusing with the Fate Morgana, a unique key Caerula gave to Alita after beating her, Imaginos 2.0 showed Alita how much of a threat she became. Alita proved this by being unaffected by Trinidad’s hacking. She hacked him back with just an avatar, controlled her nanomachines to paralyze or consume, and manipulated the mind without her knowing. Her powers and skills increased more, and she gained access to two of the most powerful tools in the series.
Melchizedek: While it did have a different role in Battle Angel, Melchizedek is still portrayed overall as a quantum supercomputer. In Last Order, the computer housed within Ketheres is used to run Jacob's Ladder. Shown to create a cyber universe from virtual reality, it can interact with other people and their avatars, the most potent Electronic brain stated by Super Nova. Because Alita has the Fate Morgana, she was given first-class to Melchizedek, and it chose her as the best outcome. As said in the precognition panel, Melchizedek can predict multiple future outcomes that Trinidad successfully predicted using the Sword of Damocles.
Zeus & The Jupiter Dynamo: The moment Alita became fused with Futa Morgana, she was able to claim another high-level equipment, The Jupiter Dynamo. Or, Jovian in Japan’s version. Super Nova said Melchizedek is a wormhole reactor that allows the user to have unlimited energy. The reactor is run by Zeus, who is another quantum supercomputer that can predict future outcomes. Before Alita used his corpse as her jacket, Tunguska, its original user, used Jupiter Dynamo, similar to a laser beam attack. The beams easily cut through five layers of energy shields stated to hold nuclear blasts.
Imaginos 2.1: In the final form of Imaginos, Alita becomes an angel and gains her wings at last. Here she gets approved by Zeus and Melchizedek to gain complete control of their abilities. As stated by Nova X, Nova made a lot of bots of himself by adapting Imaginos to Alita’s emotions, and her situation has improved in every form. 2.1 powers and abilities improved greater than 2.0, which was proven when she took control of the Onion Frame and landed her Jupiter Dynamo energy to Don Fua to use his Black Hole Technique. The total power and limits are unknown.

Fought Zekka and traded blows with him for a while till Zekka’s power and experience got the best of Sechs. Zekka was stated to be one of the powerful cyborgs in the world of Alita, which he proves to be by destroying Don Fua’s Iron asteroid, turning Gargantua into a tree shown in space, and creating antimatter in his body. His rematch with Don Fua resulted in his arm exploding in a blast so big it created a bright light to turn night into day for about fifteen minutes.

Has massacred or beaten many foes within seconds, including soldiers, ninjas, and bounty hunters

2B
If one thing Yoko Taro has reminded us, it is the lesson that waifus are never safe from getting the George R.R. Martin treatment. Despite 2B being one of YoRHa’s best soldier and sacrificing her duties for the glory of mankind, it was all pointless since the game was rigged from the start. Let’s explain the flaws. Most YoRHa units, including 2B, have suffered throughout Automata. The plug-in chips are big in abilities, but it suffers from storage amount where only a limited amount of chips can be placed. It also does not help the pods cooldown on their unique abilities and can take seconds to recharge depending on the number of pods used for the command. Even the Flight Units can be completely destroyed by strong blasts from Engels and truly lack durability.
However, the biggest weakness is that… Well, 2B is a robot. Androids in Nier have humanistic features yet are still robotic and still suffer their exploits. This was shown throughout the game since electromagnetic attacks like EMPs, hacking, or viruses can quickly enter and corrupt the host. Those three alone were the ultimate downfall of YoRHa itself that took out 2B’s immortality for resurrection and having A2 mercy kill 2B when she too became infected with the same virus. That, and she has been the central target of the 34th rule, is still strong as of today.
Alita
As the picture shows, life can be a bitch to anyone and never holds mercy. Alita may be the Angel of Death in earning respect from friends and foes alike, but even angels fall from grace. While being a fully developed cyborg, Alita surprisingly has mainly felt no pain at all, making herself reckless in losing parts of her own body just to gain an advantage. It becomes a problem when her warrior spirit kicks in, where she either plays with her opponent or wants to challenge a worthy opponent like Jashugan. While solid and versatile, the Panzer Kunst itself showed that it could be countered against opponents who can match in skill and power, like Zekka when he canceled Sechs Hertza Heaon by matching its wavelength. This goes the same with Alita since her fights against Zapan and Caerula showed her skills could be dominated. It also does not help that most of her bodies require support in changing and have their own set of weaknesses like Berserker and Imganios cells destroyed by Collapser and anti-Berserker rounds since both are the same structure.
The main factor to keep in mind for Alita is she is still struggling to find her role in life, and she does not have a good track record. Gally’s suffering and beatings from being a robot, with the same faults as getting EMP or hacked, have been questioned on why she continues fighting. Even losing her memories and discovering she replaced the original whose brain was separated broke Alita where it allowed Desity Nova to analyze and kill her on two different occasions. Alita also puts her loved ones first over herself, where the loss of Erica and Hugo pulled a troll into her heart still felt as she nearly finished her journey. Also does not help Alita in her biggest fears being falling from space and evil butterflies, which are real phobias.

Before We Get to Verdicts
There are some questions about the main concerns of how this blog was made. So, the section shown here will discuss it in simple detail that decides the factors made as they were.
A2 & The Pearl Harbor Descent
One of the big questions related to Nier is the scaling factor for A2 and her infamous feat of tanking a mountain-level explosion. To quickly summarize the Pearl Harbor Descent: The mission mainly was the origin story of A2 and why she became a traitor of YoRHa in the game. Her mission was to destroy a base inside Mount Kaala in Pearl Harbor, heavily guarded by machines. Despite heavy casualties of A2’s team and a team-up with the Resistance, A2 succeeds in destroying the base at the cost of discovering the true secrets behind the machines and YoRHa itself. Here is where the feat comes in, A2 became the only survivor of the mission after her final squad member activated her black box and blew up the whole base, including A2.
So it comes down to the question: Does 2B get the same scaling as A2, including her Pearl Harbor feat? Short answer, Yes.
There were lots of solid arguments on both sides. Some even debunked how both 9S and 2B used their boxes and got destroyed to counter the feat. However, in making this blog, three significant factors support the scaling of 2B is fair. The first is Yoko Taro himself because of how much time and effort he alone has put into the series of Nier. Adding the scene to the story was no accident, as it is the backbone of A2’s story. Not only that, but it was also foretold in the YoRHa Stage Play and is the focus of the upcoming manga. The second source is the game itself and where A2 is in the white library. Here it was shown in the story where B2 was E2 and was created based on A2 and the Pearl Harbor Descent. As Yako Taro stated in 2B’s strength feat, the execution models were made to be the strongest and best models of the YoRHa made to be better than the older version, A2. The final reason was held onto just for this blog: the short video Beasts of Slaughter. It confirms the feat is connected to canon from the game but also ensures A2 and 2B are ideally the same. It also puts A2 on the same level as 9S and 2B since she has defeated them numerous times.
Overall, 2B scales to A2, including tanking a black box because it is a severe part of the lore in Automata while balancing the characters without breaking the story.
Why Were The Crossovers Added for 2B?
This one will be the shorter version of the three, but some of 2B’s crossovers were too important to ignore. It would have been fine if just the game alone was the focal point and would have been the end of the discussion. Until… 2P was made by those who made Soul Calibur 7 as just a second skin, and Yako Taro reacted by saying, “FUCKING CANON”!!! Yeah, 2P once again stated that the reason why the main collaborations were included was her alone, later becoming an official character in the series of Nier and before being the main villain behind YoRHa: Dark Apocalyse.
The Scaling of Alita’s Imganios
Throughout the blog, the final question was the most challenging decision: deciding the scaling of Alita’s trump card Imganios. The problem with Imganios was never fully seeing the body's total power nor seeing the limits of 2.1. The audience never got to see what Imganios could do at maxed capacity besides taking control of the Onion Frame. It also did not help when the time gap occurred for Mars Chronicles and has not yet explained what happened after Alita went to Venus in detail. And while she did assist Tunpo in using his black hole technique, it was not from Alita. Tunpo would have quickly done the move himself since his main goal was to destroy Trinidad’s weapon, similar to the Hammer of Dawn, but he got damaged by Zekka’s rematch and had to shield up when the Sword of Damocles fired at him. The feat acted more like Donald Duck giving a healing potion rather than a feat of power.
So, another question regarding Imganios should get the scaling of Tunpo? Sadly, no.
Again Alita never showed the limits of Imganios at full power, and Tunpo was not there to fight at all. His ranking, in theory, would be an Elder based on his record of being a teacher for many years and also taught Zekka that would not yet support Alita in the same class. It also does not help that Toji and Caerula have shown that their skills alone were fatal to Imganios from previous versions. Even Alita admitted when foes like Caerula outclassed her.
However, what is reasonable is Alita taking on Licensed Masters like Zekka and Caerula since both have earned respect from both Alita and Sechs since they were to fight on par against them. She should at least scale to them.
Verdicts

I honestly thought this would be a shorter and simple battle that I thought would not have been as hard as my last one. Six months later, I bite what I chew. But, still proud of this matchup, and it truly is now my most requested matchup. Tried out Nier: Automata for the first time truly made it as enjoyable as Breath of The Wild, yet it made me enjoy the story more in most game I played. Then my brother and I loved watching the Live Action Alita: Battle Angel at the threater when it came out. Thankfully it was a good movie and brought me awareness of the manga which I too enjoyed. This is why I wanted this fight as much as the others because both of these series deserve the attention they get in truly groundbreaking stories with great memorable characters. And not going to lie is genuinely a close match as the fight can go either way depending on the stats and counters.
Let’s cut to the point of the fight: This was a hard match to decide.
The fight was neck and neck because of how close Alita and 2B were on speed, durability, and the counters. Thankfully, some were easy to spot. 2B, for starters, has shown much more sources of being stronger by destroying the bunker with her Self destruct and beating Emil, proving she can match the destruction of planet level. At the same time, Alita, at her max, could move the Onion Frame and “in theory” should scale to Zekka, who made that bright light for about fifteen minutes. Even if Alita got the Tunpo scaling on her side, the same would go with 2B scaling to Ivy Valentine, including her rivals fighting Star Wars legends like Vader and Yoda. 2B also got much more packing with better ways of healing, more mobile weaponry, the black box, and the pods. However, Alita has the advantage of bringing her back in the fight. She has been taught and mastered one of the most vital martial arts in Alita’s universe, which helped her match experienced fighters who fought for hundreds of years. She also could show more firepower and range in weaponry; plasma control energy has many methods to win instantly and easily predict her opponent’s movement.
Because of them having a lot of counters to each other, the match would come down to who would dance longer and find an exploit first. And this is what is giving 2B an edge because this is what she was made for doing. Thanks to her Plug-In chips, 2B will be able to balance defensively around Alita’s arsenal and go on the offense to power through her defense. Alita has shown to be very lacking in defense armory herself and has struggled against those who match in strength and skill, which 2B has both. It does not help that 2B can just heal herself or just use her items to cancel out the effects of Alita’s abilities. Also, a small detail to add to Alita’s Panzer Knust is somewhat similar to what 9S does to his foes after he successfully hacks them, adding more evidence that 2B would know how to defeat her sooner thanks to her past fights with 9S and Adam and Eve. Hacking alone would not help either side since both 2B and Alita have resisted and defeated skilled hackers like Trinidad and 9S.
And this is without mentioning the Flight Unit or the pods themselves, which are the backbone of 2B’s fighting. Alita can take down the Flight Unit in lacking durability and 2B’s pods can take damage since the Nier Music Concert story Lies showed 2B killing a pod with her sword. But, 2B has three pods and will likely get the information she needs to wear down Alita to get the finishing blow. And the Flight Unit would control the battlefield due to its intense speed and mobility in the sky, unlike Alita, who uses the full power of Imganios, which might be too late in the fight. Despite predicting 2B’s movement, Alita would have a tricky time catching 2B and getting rid of her weapons since the chips could slow her down. Lastly, even if 2B does get close to losing, there is the black box. There is no way Alita survives even if she heals because of her not surviving weaker attacks like Toji’s tornado rat strike. It is similar to the Hulk’s healing style in which her nanomachines recover from the damage taken, but Toji’s rat strike took nearly 70% of her body as Imganios 2.0. The black box was made as a deadlier nuclear bomb to destroy almost everything in its place, and Alita nor her nanomachines has ever been shown to withstand a blast that strong.
In conclusion, 2B advantages from prediction should be enough to pass through Alita’s offense and trade the finishing blow to complete her mission. As I stated, this fight is very close, and the outcome is indeed debatable to both fighters winning. However, 2B after conducting have the right tools and abilities to make sure she would execute her plan before Alita could find a fatal blow on 2B. 2B just had so many things to throw at Alita that she would not be able to keep up when she needed it most. And had more ways to finish the battle once Alita had weakened, opening for the final encore for 2B to perform. Whether it is cut and slash till Alita can not heal, blowing herself up with Self destruct, or using her black box.
Thanks to her experience, nanomachine control, and Panzer Kunst fighting, Alita has brought one of the closest battles to date. Still, it was not enough against 2B’s determination to be stronger, better mobility in versatility, methods of healing, and pure self-destruction to take down the Angel of Death for good.

Okay, I finally finished and am proud of the hard work once again. It took a lot of effort, and I was challenged in finding the sources since some Mangas are very hard to find online. Besides the struggle, I truly loved this, and it is now my most requested fight because of how powerful the matchup is in theme and style.
